started knitting and crocheting at the age of 13, having learned from my aunt who had a yarn shop in her home.  I still remember the day I got my very first skein of yarn!  In addition to knit and crochet, I love to embroider and quilt, especially patchwork, which also provides me with inspiration for my knitting and crochet designs.

I met my husband, Lloyd, in seventh grade.  We were married 53 years, have five children, sixteen grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.  Lloyd was a very integral part of my designing career because he did all the household chores and let me devote my time to design.  I lost him in March, 2009 to cancer and I am a cancer survivor.  I miss him a lot!

About the design process, when I do a design for Caron and receive the yarn, I try to design a project for ease and comfort but I also want it to be elegant.  A lot of my inspiration comes from my adult grandchildren, while whose fashion sense may be very different from my own, they always keeps me informed on what is popular in knitwear.

Over the many years I have been knitting and working with many kinds of yarns.  I look for yarn that feels good and will hold its shape.  The new yarns from Caron, Spa and Country, work wonderfully well – I especially like the way Spa drapes.  I use it for baby blankets and for lightweight adult sweaters.  I am currently making a sweater for myself using Spa.  Country works great for scarves and other worsted-weight yarn projects.  Keep up the good work, Caron!
