One circular needle US size 6 (4mm), 32” long

One circular needle US size 8 (5mm) needles, 32” long, or size to obtain gauge

One crochet hook US size F/5 (4mm)

KNITTED MEASUREMENTS

Bust 34 (38, 42, 46 ½)” with trim

Length 20 ¾ (21 ½, 22 ½, 23)” without neckband

 

GAUGE

In Texture Pattern, using larger needles, 18 sts and 22 rows = 4”/10cm

 

STITCHES USED

Garter Stitch (Garter st)

Stockinette Stitch (St st)

Texture Pattern (multiple of 2 sts; 8-row repeat):

Row 1 (RS): K2, *k1, sl 1; repeat from * to last 2 sts, k2.

Row 2: P2, *sl 1, p1; repeat from * to last 2 sts, p2.

Row 3: K2, *k1, k1tbl; repeat from * to last 2 sts, k2.

Row 4: P across.

Row 5: K2, *sl 1, k1; repeat from * to last 2 sts, k2.

Row 6: P2, *p1, sl 1; repeat from * to last 2 sts, p2.

Row 7: K2, *k1tbl, k1; repeat from * to last 2 sts, k2.

Row 8: P across.

Repeat Rows 1-8 for Texture Pattern.

Buttonhole: Yarn forward, slip 1 purlwise, yarn in back, (slip 1 purlwise, pass slip stitch over) 4 times, return last stitch back to left needle, turn work, yarn in back, cast on 4 stitches, yarn forward, cast on 1 stitch, turn work, slip 1 knitwise, pass last cast on stitch over.

 

NOTES:

When slipping stitches, slip knitwise on knit rows and slip purlwise with yarn in front on purl rows.

Body of garment is worked in one piece then divided at the armholes.

 

BODY

Using smaller needle, cast on 172 (192, 212, 234) sts. Do not join.

Work in Garter st until piece measures 1” from beginning.

Change to larger needle.

Next row (WS): Knit.

Work in Texture Pattern until piece measures 14 ½ (15, 15 ½, 16)” from beginning, end with WS row. Continuing in Texture Pattern, divide work as follows:

Right Front

(RS) Work 36 (40, 44, 48) sts, placing remaining 136 (152, 168, 186) sts on a holder.

(WS) Work across 36 (40, 44, 48) sts.

*Dec 1 st at armhole edge every RS row 6 (6, 8, 10) times — 30 (34, 36, 38) sts.

Work even until armhole measures 4 ¼ (4 ½, 5, 5)”, end with WS row.

Shape Neck: (RS) Bind off 12 (14, 15, 16) sts at beginning of row — 18 (20, 21, 22) sts.

Dec 1 st at neck every RS row 2 times. Work even until armhole measures 6 ¼ (6 ½, 7, 7)”. Bind off remaining 16 (18, 19, 20) sts for shoulder.*

Back

(RS) Join yarn to first st on holder. Bind off next 12 (14, 16, 20) sts for underarm, work across 76 (84, 92, 98) sts leaving remaining 48 (54, 60, 68) sts on a holder.

(WS) Work across 76 (84, 92, 98) sts.

Dec 1 st at each armhole edge every RS row 6 (6, 8, 10) times — 64 (72, 76, 78) sts.

Work even until armhole measures 5 ¼ (5 ½, 6, 6)”, end with WS row.

Shape Right Shoulder: (RS) Work 17 (19, 20, 21) sts, placing remaining 47 (53, 56, 57) sts on a holder.

(WS) Dec 1 st at neck edge. Work even until armhole measures 6 ¼ (6 ½, 7, 7)”. Bind off remaining 16 (18, 19, 20) sts for right shoulder.

Shape Left Shoulder: (RS) Join yarn to first st on holder, then bind off 30 (34, 36, 36) sts for back neck and work across remaining 17 (19, 20, 21) sts.

(WS) Dec 1 st at neck edge. Work even until armhole measures 6 ¼ (6 ½, 7, 7)”. Bind off remaining 16 (18, 19, 20) sts for left shoulder.

Left Front

(RS) Join yarn in first st on holder, then bind off 12 (14, 16, 20) sts for underarm and work across remaining 36 (40, 44, 48) sts. Complete as for Right Front from * to *, reversing all shaping.

FINISHING

Using yarn needle, seam shoulders.

Trim: With WS facing, join yarn with sl st to hem. Using crochet hook and working along inner edges, ch 1, sc evenly from hem to beginning of neck, turn. Ch 1, sc in each sc, fasten off. Repeat Trim for opposite side.

Armhole Trim: With RS facing, join yarn with sl st at lowest point of armhole. Using crochet hook, ch 1, sc evenly around armhole, sl st to first sc.Ch 1, sc in each sc around, sl st to first sc, fasten off. Repeat Trim for other armhole.

Neckband: With RS facing and smaller needles, pick up 86 (94, 100,108) sts evenly around neck (including sides of 2 rows of single crochet trim).Work in St st until neckband measures 1” from beginning, end with WS row.

Buttonhole row (RS): K4, work buttonhole, k to end.

Work in St st until neckband measures 2” from beginning, end with WS row.

Next row: Repeat buttonhole row.

Work in St st until neckband measures 3” from beginning, end with WS row.

Folding row (RS): P across.

Continue working in St st until neckband measures 6”, working buttonholes on Right Front to correspond to the first two buttonholes. Bind off all sts.

Using yarn needle, fold the neckband and seam into place, ensuring that buttonholes match. Attach buttons adjacent to buttonholes. Using yarn needle, weave in all ends. Block lightly as desired.
